To quote the National ABWA website, "By its very nature, recognition is loaded with positive reinforcement. It is an essential component of effective development. Thus individual members are recognized for their efforts. Each year, in addition to national awards and recognition, local chapters ... honor members who make significant accomplishments in education, leadership, and professional and civic activities."
ABWA Douglas County Charter Chapter Recognition
ABWA Douglas County Charter Chapter recognizes members in very distinguished ways depending on length of membership and various other requirements. These awards and recognitions include: Business/Associate of the Year, Boss of the Year, Woman of the Year, President's Award, and the Top Ten Candidate Nomination.
Each ABWA member has the opportunity to recognize a key individual in the community who has supported this chapter, women in business, and local charities.
Anyone who knows of a boss who motivates and makes staff feel important, provides clear goals and direction, and is committed and positive, is encouraged to complete a nomination form.
It is that time of year again ... when we nominate one of our own for our chapter’s award of Woman of the Year. I would ask that all members please complete the form on our webpage and return your nomination no later than April 2, 2010.
The Woman of the Year program was designed so every ABWA group can annually recognize a member who has made notable contributions and outstanding achievements to their local ABWA chapter. It’s a great honor - one that’s highly respected by ABWA members.
Please take a moment and nominate a fellow member for our “Chapter Woman of the Year” program. Our committee selects a candidate, who has made major contributions and continues to provide chapter recognition. It is a great honor - a vote of confidence, appreciation and thanks from ABWA friends.
So, what should you consider when nominating one of our own? Here are some suggestions:
1. The member must be in good standing (nationally and locally)
2. Length of time as a member
3. Participation as a committee chair
4. Participation as an officer
5. Special involvement in ABWA activities
6. Outreach to bring in new members/Promotion of ABWA
7. Promotion of professional development, support and education
8. Community involvement
Top Ten Candidates
Each candidate will submit a biography to the committee by March 15th. Submitted biographies will be reviewed by a non-ABWA member judge who will select the Douglas County Charter Chapter Top Ten Candidate based upon national requirements. The requirements to be selected include: being female, currently employed, primary member of the Douglas County Charter Chapter, current or past chapter officer, ABWA member for three (3) years as of May 15th of the nomination year, and in good standing both nationally and locally.
